| Timiskaming Health Unit Advisory |
| Englehart |
| 11/04/2007 |
The Timiskaming Health Unit continues to advise residents and people in the area not to use the Blanche River water system in the area of the spill for any purposes until further notice. This includes: watering livestock, drinking, fishing, swimming and any other recreational activities. Once the cleanup is complete the advisory will be lifted and normal practices can resume.
Since the spill occurred to surface water (Miller Creek and Blanche River), impacts to municipal groundwater drinking water systems and private water wells are not anticipated. Therefore, no restrictions have been placed on the normal use of these water supplies.
The Ministry of the Environment has been monitoring pH levels of the Blanche River at several locations downstream of the spill site since March 30, 2007. Results from samples collected 5, 10, and 20 kilometers downstream of the spill site show normal pH values. There is n evidence to suggest that pH values in the Blanche River further downstream or in Lake Timiskaming would not be within the normal range.
Should you have any health concerns please contact the Timiskaming Health Unit. |
